Family Beach Gatherings and Boat Rentals
Tenerife’s golden beaches are the perfect spot to relax with family and friends. Many locals and visitors choose to rent a boat during December to fully embrace the island’s coastal beauty. Why not welcome the New Year on the water, listening to music as you take in the stunning fireworks display? After the 12 chimes and eating grapes for good luck, a refreshing dip in the sea marks the start of the year in a way only Tenerife can offer.
You can book a boat rental in Tenerife to make your holiday experience truly unforgettable. Whether it’s a Christmas Eve sail or a New Year’s Eve celebration, these boat trips provide a special way to see the island from a different perspective.
Christmas Lunch and Dinner
In Tenerife, Christmas Eve is a time for gathering around the table to enjoy delicious holiday meals. Every home and restaurant puts on a feast, offering traditional dishes that reflect the island’s rich culinary heritage. A must-try dessert is the Trucha de batata (sweet potato pastry), along with popular Christmas treats like turrones, mantecados de vino, and rosquetes.
The main course often features island specialties such as Iberian ham, cheese, fresh fish, pork, rabbit, and goat dishes, all prepared with care and tradition. To sample these festive dishes, many restaurants in Tenerife offer special Christmas menus, providing a true taste of Canarian Christmas cuisine.
Christmas Traditions and Events in Tenerife
Christmas in Tenerife is rich with traditions, both in homes and out in the streets. The festive spirit is present everywhere, from Christmas trees filled with gifts to local events that everyone can enjoy.
Christmas Carols
In Tenerife, the holiday season begins in early December with the sound of villancicos, traditional Christmas carols. Groups of people walk through the streets singing and spreading joy, starting from the early morning hours. These carolers are a key part of the festive atmosphere, filling every corner of the island with holiday cheer.
Christmas Dances
A unique part of Tenerife’s Christmas traditions is the Baile de la Cunita, a dance held on December 24th in honor of the baby Jesus. Locals gather around a symbolic cradle, singing carols and performing a dance that mimics rocking the child to sleep. It’s a beautiful and heartfelt tradition that brings families and communities together.
The Arrival of the Three Wise Men
The arrival of the Three Wise Men is one of the most anticipated events in Tenerife. Each year, actors dressed as the wise men parade through the streets, reenacting their journey.
