Puerto del Carmen is located in the southeast of the island of Lanzarote and is one of the most important tourist centres in the region. It has many services for the enjoyment of tourists and 6 kilometres of lush beaches.
It was originally a fishing area but has evolved to offer a complete tourist offer. Nowadays, there is still an incessant fishing activity in the area known as La Tiñosa and in order to maintain the essence of the area, the hotel buildings were built respecting the traditional architecture.
Beaches of Puerto del Carmen
The coastline stretches for 8 kilometres along which you will find all kinds of services. You will also have the possibility to practice various water activities such as diving, snorkelling, surfing and more. Many tourists choose the beaches of Puerto del Carmen in their itinerary for its excellent climate and quality services.
Playa Grande Beach
This is an urban beach stretching for a kilometre of golden sands and calm waters. It is the most popular beach in the area and all the activities of Puerto del Carmen take place here. The adjacent promenade has a variety of shops, restaurants and leisure areas to suit all tastes.
Here you will find everything the bather needs to enjoy the sea in comfort. The beach has showers, toilets, changing rooms, lifeguards, sunbeds and parasols, and a secure parking area.
Matagorda
It stretches for 800 metres and is 30 metres wide. It is one of the busiest coves on the island as it is surrounded by hotels and flats. You will find sunbeds and umbrellas, but if you prefer, you can lie on the sand to sunbathe and get a nice tan.
Los Pocillos
It is located in the centre, between Matagorda and Playa Grande. It is 1 kilometre long and 150 metres wide and welcomes hundreds of tourists who visit it. It is characterised by its golden sands and calm waters.
Avenue of the Beaches
The Avenida de las Playas runs parallel to the beaches of Puerto del Carmen. Its shopping and leisure facilities have contributed to the popularity of the area. If you walk along it, you will find various restaurants, shops and many daytime and night-time leisure options. The avenue has a cycling area for you to cross it on two wheels and enjoy the sea breeze in its entirety.
How to get there
Getting to the beaches of Puerto del Carmen is very easy. All you have to do is drive along the avenue and park near the beach of your choice. You can also get there by bus on one of the bus lines that run to Puerto del Carmen. Now that you are on the beach, you just have to enjoy a wonderful day on the sea of Lanzarote.
